Woodworking

I like working with wood - particularly building Mission-style furniture.  I also look for projects where I can combine wood with stone or glass.  Here are some pictures of completed projects.

This project kept me entertained for much of 2023: an Arts & Crafts influenced buffet for the dining room.  It is my own design with pull out drawers in the 'liquor cabinet'.  The wood is walnut from Edensaw Woods in Port Townsend; the stained glass panels were fabricated by Big M Glass here in Tacoma.

Sofa 05.jpg

This was my 2022 project: a Mission - style sofa in cherry.  I largely followed plans I purchased online except this piece had to break down so I could get it up the stairs.

Lamp 01.jpg

This stool was my project in a woodturning class I took with Beth Ireland at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking.  The seat has the symmetry of a tourmaline crystal.  It's made of cherry with a 3-part oil finish.

Tables 01.jpg

Floor lamp in cherry based on a Frank Lloyd Wright design.  The original had a pull chain for the light fixture but this one has a switch on the under side of shelf.  I built this in 2000-2001 while on sabbatical in Albuquerque.

A pair of walnut end tables with red sandstone tops.  I came across the sandstone slabs at a quarry while driving home from New Mexico to Georgia.  They contain fossil raindrop impressions and are probably aeolian but unfortunately I don't know their age or formation name.
